Getting There
The Turnagain Arm Trailhead is conveniently located just a short drive south of Anchorage, making it highly accessible for a day trip. From downtown Anchorage, head south on AK-1 S, also known as the Seward Highway. This scenic highway hugs the eastern shore of Turnagain Arm, offering stunning views even before you reach the trailhead. Youโll pass through the small community of Indian, and approximately 1.5 miles beyond Indian, look for the well-marked parking area and trailhead on your left (east side of the highway). The coordinates for the trailhead are approximately 60.985, -149.545. Thereโs ample parking available, but during peak summer weekends, it can fill up quickly, so consider an early start. The trailhead is clearly signed, indicating the start of your adventure into Chugach State Park.
